The Outpost is nestled in the Yaouk Valley on the headwaters of the Murrumbidgee River. Yaouk is 1.5 hours drive south of Canberra on a scenic unsealed road through the Namadgi National Park. Mountains surround us and the area is famous for it’s fly-fishing, hiking, horse riding and snow skiing. The Outpost is a 900 acre property of mostly Alpine woodland supporting an abundant population of native wildlife including kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, platypus, echidnas and a multitude of birds. It is 45 minutes from Mount Selwin Ski Resort.
The Yaouk Valley is unique in Australia, is bounded by National Parks on three sides; the Kosciuszko National Park, the Namadgi National Park and the Yaouk Nature reserve. The nearest village is Adaminaby, which is about a twenty-five minutes drive away.

The Land
352.1 hectares, in two portions of 188 and 164.1, approx. 900 acres, about 220 acres cleared and fenced, the remainder natural alpine bush. Little grazing and no super for 18 years. Carried 200 merino wethers and 120 breeding Cashmere does until 1994. Main road access by 4 km good private road. The Lodge
Highlight is the 400 sq m fishing lodge that faces NNE, only 200 meters from the river with unrivalled views of the Murrumbidgee. It was built and run as a luxury fly fishing lodge and as such, attracted many overseas and local guests. It has three guest bedrooms with ensuites, and a study on the ground floor, spacious lounge with ten foot ceiling, open fireplace and a wall of windows overlooking magnificent view of the river. Also on the ground floor and overlooking the river is the large open plan dining room professionally designed kitchen with wood and electric stove and family breakfast room, laundry and visitors toilet. Upstairs are the owner's quarters, with a huge bedroom with walk in robes overlooking the stunning view and a second bedroom and bathroom. The lodge is almost surrounded by verandahs which are well used, for meals and by the fishermen. In the basement is a large wine cellar.
Cottage
A small charming two bedrooms and spacious attic cottage, in a 5 star environment, is hidden behind a green screen in the garden. The living room with wood heater, there are1 ½ bathrooms, a full kitchen and laundry, with a large north facing verandah for summer barbecues or relaxing in the shade.
At The Outpost
As well as the lodge and cottage there is a machinery shed part of which has been used as an artists studio. It has a bathroom and kitchenette. There is a three car carport and woodshed. There is also a tennis court, superb swimming hole in the Platypus pool, an extensive garden and sheltered vegetable garden
There are a number of marked and unmarked bush walks around the property. that you are free to use. Yaouk Mountain looms behind us and the marked two-hour walk (one way) to the top provides panoramic views of the valley. Nearby Mount Morgan, Mount Scabby and Sentry Box hill are also good day walks for the enthusiast. Expect to see many native animals and birds; in particular, look out for the majestic Wedge Tail Eagle soaring overhead.
Activities
Fly-fishing, considered blue ribbon water by experienced fishers, walking on designated walking tracks through the bush. Spotting native animals, kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas wombats, possums, and many birds, rosellas, wild duck, wedge tail eagles, hawks, herons, finches and swallows among them. Play tennis or swim in the Platypus pool. In winter 40 minutes from Mount Selwin Family Ski resort.
